Amp Your Happiness with Kindness and Compassion

Free 10-Minute Loving-kindness Meditation!

Compassion is the feeling you get when you witness someone in need and want to help alleviate their suffering. It cultivates kindness & kindness has been shown to activate our vagus nerve and reward circuitry in our brain.   Practicing compassion strengthens our social connections leading to more happiness. Compassion activates our parasympathetic system resulting in a slower heart rate and less stress when we are confronted with challenges. Compassion also makes us happier by increasing our social connections and making us feel similar to others.

Anyone can learn and practice compassion. One way to flex our compassion muscle is with loving-kindness meditation.  In a study done by  Fredrickson and colleagues, people who practiced loving-kindness meditation daily for seven weeks reported a steady increase in their daily experience of positive emotions, such as joy, gratitude, contentment, hope, and love. They also reported greater life satisfaction and lower depressive symptoms compared to when they started.  Check out the 10- Minute Loving Kindness Meditation below.  It’s a great start to any week and a great way to start 2020!
